Barolo. MGA Cannubi Boschis. Evolving lustrous ruby with narrow bricky rim. Still a little closed but with shy dark fruit rising from the glass. Saline hints and, with aeration, more and more precise, poised cherry fruit. Lots of juice on the palate over a layer of grainy tannins that grow large in stature, but at the same time the fruit becomes more and more perfumed on the finish. Long and complex but still has some road ahead of it. (WS)

The 2015 Barolo Aleste was also tasted at the estate alongside the 2021 vintage and is an incredible wine at this moment. While I occasionally find some wines from 2015 to be heavier than I prefer, this one showcases fantastic balance in its depth and expressive personality. It reveals raspberry, cherry liqueur, fresh leather, porcini, sweet spice, and tobacco aromas. The palate is expansive, awakens the senses, and possesses profound depth as well as freshness, making it an excellent choice to enjoy now or over the next 15 years.

This special wine takes us back to a warm and sunny vintage. The Luciano Sandrone 2015 Barolo Aleste Sibi et Paucis is open knit in texture with granular tannins that give the wine softness and a sense of grittiness. These qualities reflect the character of the year, and the wine follows through with a dark appearance with crimson and burgundy highlights. In terms of bouquet, you get dried flowers, fragrant tea leaf and a hint of smoked meat or bacon. Fruit is from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard, and this 1,500-bottle release is held back for an additional eight years of bottle age before it hits the market. It's had ample time to evolve, and now it's time to enjoy this late-release wine.

Modern, fragrant nose with a touch of spice as well as black cherry, leather and mushroom. Furry tannic grip, still in the first flush of youth. Tight. (RH)
