Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2014-2030, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, May 2019
Chiara, Emidio's granddaughter, says that 1990 was 'a balanced year and in the vein of 2001'. Bottle number 20,167. Mature looking, mid ruby with watery, bricky rim. Mature, sweet nose with hints of liquorice, tobacco and savoury spice and iron. Alluring and perfumed and with a little lift. Succulent and with a perfect balance between concentration and velvety tannins. Very long and supple. (WS)

About the producer

Emidio Pepe
Emidio Pepe is a star of the Abruzzo region and one of Italy’s most famous names. Worshipped by natural-wine lovers for its low-intervention approach, this estate makes category-defying, age-worthy examples of Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Cerasolo d’Abruzzo, as well as Pecorino Colli Aprutini.
