Score 91/100 · Drink 2017-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2016

The Paolo Scavino 2011 Barolo reveals a very nice sense of balance with ripe Nebbiolo flavors that give the wine extra richness and softness in terms of mouthfeel. All of Paolo Scavino's wines achieve great harmony in this vintage and this so-called base Barolo is no exception. The wine shows classic lines, good aromatic intensity and sweet tannins.

Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Dark and savoury yet reluctant to show fruit on the nose. Just a hint of fruit cake. Holding back on the palate too, but precisely balanced and with rich, coating tannins on the finish. Very good for a base Barolo. (WS)

The 2011 Barolo is soft, supple and expressive. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet, tobacco, spices and red berries are all laced together in a feminine, gracious Barolo with tons of near and medium-term appeal. In 2011, the Barolo is quite pretty and aromatically lifted, with medium-bodied structure that makes it ideal for drinking over the next handful of years. The main sites in the blend are Vignolo, Altenasso, Rocche Mariondino, Albarella, Terlo, Vignane and San Bernardo.

Scavino's 2011 Barolo is supple, radiant and inviting. Cherry pit, smoke, wild flowers, spice and underbrush notes flesh out in a resonant, highly expressive Barolo that should drink well with minimum cellaring. This is a gorgeous entry-level Barolo from one of Piedmont's leading families. The main sites in the blend are Vignolo, Altenasso, Rocche Mariondino, Albarella, Terlo, Vignane and San Bernardo.
