Tasting notes
The superlatives were endless for this now closed Lowland grain whisky distillery, mourned by Jim Murray who describes it as “a tragically lost distillery capable of making the finest whisky you might expect to find at 40 years of age: this is flawless”. Describing the taste of what is the oldest official bottling of Cambus he went on to say “caramels simply don't come this intense yet pitch-perfect. The corn, oak, toasty sugars and all else to be found all seems wrapped one way or another in caramelised form with varying levels of honey and roast at work. So the feeling of age, great age. Yet as though preserved in caramel…extraordinary and beyond beautiful”. As demand for closed distilleries and aged grain whiskies continues to grow, numbers of this limited release of 1,812 bottles continues to decline.
