Aromatic and mineral notes abound in the 2012 Clos de la Roche, a wine that remains quite classic and austere in style, at least today. Savory herbs, crushed flowers, mint, cranberry and tobacco are given an extra kick of energy from veins of intense salinity that lurk beneath. I expect the 2012 will demand at least a handful of years of cellaring, but its balance is exceptional, even today. The estate's Clos de la Roche emerges from the Monts Luisants climate.

Violets, savory herbs, blue/blackish fruit, licorice and smoke all come together in the 2012 Clos de la Roche, a wine that is both voluptuous in its fruit but also massively structured. The 2012 boasts serious depth and class, but it is a Burgundy for the patient. Sadly, there are just 1.5 barrels to go around. Lécheneaut vinified the 2012 Clos de la Roche with 25% whole clusters. This is another fabulous showing from the Lécheneaut brothers.
