Vinfolio Tasting Note

Bursting with dark red cherry, plum, notes of marzipan, savoury characters emerging, but remains incredible fresh and young. Very elegant and refined. Beautiful intensity, ripe tannins and a very long finish. Oct 2017, FINE+RARE

Tasted blind in Hong Kong, the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 1998 from Nicolas Potel's Maison Roche de Bellene has a very reduced, Liquorice Allsorts-scented bouquet that does not really take you to Burgundy. The palate is chunky with star anis and peppermint notes, but overall this feels a little–manufactured? I think Nicolas is producing far better wines nowadays and this has not aged particularly well.

Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
