2015 Chardonnay M3 Vineyard

Magnum. Michael Hill Smith recalled how, in 1989, they speculatively made 2,000 cases each of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and then tried to find someone to buy it. An Australian wine merchant suggested they might be able to sell a total of 500 cases over the three years. They were rescued by their UK importer David Gleave MW of Liberty Wines. Leesy, to a very slightly exaggerated extent, nose and attractively chalky-textured. Pretty good quality for a 5,000-case line. (JR)
