Pliant, supple and exceptionally polished, the 2004 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata captures the pedigree of this site, the crown jewel in La Morra's Annunziata district. Hints of rose petal, orange peel and sweet spices give the 2004 an exotic dimension that is striking. Drink this super-expressive Barolo over the next decade or so. This is a terrific showing from the Rocche, which is also the wine with the best overall balance in this range.

Gorgeous, open aromatics lead to layers of silky-textured, opulent fruit in the 2004 Barolo Rocche. A multitude of roses, flowers, black cherries and spices flow as this vibrant, pure Barolo blossoms on the palate with superb depth and definition. The only thing it needs is a few more years in the bottle. I would love to see if the 2004 Rocche might one day rival the legendary 1990.

Medium red, a bit less deep than the Arborina. Cooler aromas of currant, rose petal, brown spices and minerals. A serious, minerally wine with lovely floral perfume and lift; a spicy element contributes to the impression of sharp definition. Best today on the back end, which features broad, dusty, silky tannins and aromatically persistent notes of red berries and sandalwood.
