Deep crimson. Deep-fruited and deeply aromatic with lovely purity of fruit on the nose and that hint of orange again, plus a light note of oak spice. Tannins are on the chewy side now but they appear to be of the texture that will melt in time. A touch stemmy, adding greater freshness. Embryonic finesse. (JH)

(vinified entirely with whole clusters and aged in 80% new oak): Healthy deep red. Sexy aromas of red berries, spices, pepper and crushed stone. Distinctly extract-rich, rocky wine with terrific sappy energy and tensile strength. Comes across as a bit cooler in character than the Echézeaux and finishes with serious building tannins. The family's holding is in the highest, windiest part of this grand cru, including one parcel that's surrounded on three sides by woods and thus receives less afternoon sun.
