Gunderloch's 2001 Riesling Auslese Nackenheimer Rothenberg displays a nose of sweet kumquats and honey. On the palate, this big, rich wine explodes with lush, silky-textured layers of sweet stones, gravel, spice, and minerals. It is deep, possesses an admirably long finish, and has a wonderful sweet/sour characteristic that is bound to bring a smile to any German Riesling lover's face. Projected maturity: 2004-2014+. Super-clean nose. Full, honeyed and spicy. Thick and dense and, I'm told, can go down a storm with potato and bacon soup. Only to the committed lover of German wine, I would suggest. (JR)
