Bowmore Bicentenary 1779-1979 is one of the most iconic and highly rated scotch whiskies of all time. Released in 1979 to celebrate the bicentenary year of one of Scotland’s oldest and most distinguished distilleries, this non-age statement whisky contains some of the “oldest stocks in the Bowmore Distillery”, some of which was distilled in 1950, when some of it finest whisky was produced. In the words of Serge Valentin it is an “an utter classic”! This is an undeniably iconic release known by all collectors of rare Bowmore. It will hold as much, if not more appeal, to future generations of whisky collectors. Since it was first released in 1979, very little of this remains to be found on the market, with odd bottles in specialist retailers and private collections. I have only a few bottles remaining and am able to offer these at GBP 3,971 per bottle in bond. 1979 is a significant year in this famed Islay distillery's history. There were a number of Bicentenary releases however it is this bottling that is particularly special, given the age of the stocks in the blend, and is one of Serge Valentin’s highest scoring whiskies ever, with an incredible 96 points. Unlike wine, no whisky has ever scored 99 or 100 points. Bowmore is one of the most famous and sought after distilleries, it is widely regarded as being close to the top of any collector's and investor's wish list. It is difficult to see how this wouldn’t be a smart buy for a speculator and drinker alike.
