Score 18.5/20 · Drink 2015-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2013
Pinot Noir almost at its deepest, plum shade with bright purple rim. The Schlossberg is probably Huber’s most powerful Grosse Gewächse rendition and with a fair grip and sound acidity it still shows an elegance and class beyond mere rippling Pinot muscles. Sweet cherries marinated in spice reflect the perfect ripeness of fruit, well balanced by tastefully toasted notes of oak and a lively juicy character. The tannins do show their teeth at this early stage, but find a delightful sensory expression in delicate nuances of fine bitter chocolate and a sprinkling of white pepper. Long finish, great promise! (MS)
