Score 18/20 · Drink 2013-2022, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2013
The Aulerde appears to be the most opulent and forward of Wittmann’s Grosse Gewächse and delivers a generous package of fruit bursting with ripeness. The exotic mingles with local produce, and rather than just write a fruit lover’s wish list, mention must go to the ingredients that channel the juicy exuberance. At the heart of the Aulerde lies a fumy minerality, and the 2012 makes no exception. Add to this a smidgeon of mint and a delicate herbaceous edge of sorrel and you will find that even a body with powerful build can move with elegance. This is not the sort of wine you drink, but give in to. (MS)
