65% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Bianco. ‘Good amount of rain at the end of winter and an early spring brought the vines forward and resulted in an early budburst. The growing season continued rather normally until the summer, when temperatures soared well over the average. On the hillside in Ruffoli, the high daily temperatures were mitigated by cooler nights, allowing for a perfect slow maturation of the grapes.’ Harvest 28 August to 18 September. Smells of molten lava! Rich yet enlivened by green fruit. Wonderful richness. Gorgeous roundness and yet depth. Very long. (JR)

Golden straw. Sweet hazelnut, spice and posh oak and hint of waxy, brown apple note. Vibrant acidity on the attack, and sweet, minerally apple and cream palate. Almost salty on the finish. Elegant mouthfeel. Seems a tad subdued. Will it develop? (WS)
About the producer
Literally translating as “beautiful oak”, Querciabella was created in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni. A pioneer in Chianti, he started farming biodynamically and experimenting with both varieties and winemaking – one result of which was Camartina, the property’s flagship Super Tuscan.
