Tasting notes
(16.7% alcohol): Medium red. High-toned, liqueur-like cherry and red berry aromas are complicated by torrefaction notes and a hint of white fruits. Offers good texture as well as a juicy quality but not the opulence, depth or concentration of the 1999 bottling. Hints of coffee, mocha and furniture polish, along with subtler notes of spices and pepper. Finishes rather savory, with dusty, slightly drying tannins. I wouldn't let this wine go too much longer.

The immense 2000 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard (550 cases; 16.7% alcohol) possesses great texture and intensity, in addition to a dense opaque garnet color, and a sweet, concentrated blackberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with hints of pepper, earth, and wood. This is a wine of enormous fruit, body, and palate-staining extract. It should drink well for a decade. The 2000 appears to be slightly more restrained and elegant than previous renditions of this blockbuster Zinfandel. (Release date 10/02) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
(16.5% alcohol) Good full medium ruby. Deep aromas of cherry syrup, exotic spices and cracked pepper. Pliant, dense and very sweet, with enticing fruit and spice notes and a creamy texture. Offers a glyceral richness but not quite the superconcentration of the best years for this consistently outstanding bottling. Finishes long and ripely tannic.
