Dense, deep, youthful looking ruby. Compact, beautiful nose of sweet baking spice and sweet brooding red fruit. Minerally too and with a hint of cigar box. Fluent, succulent palate, with grainy muscular tannin. Very elegant and precise. Young! Very tactile, animating. Long, fine, fruity finish. (WS)

55% Sangiovese, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and Syrah. 24 months in 80% new and 20% one-year-old French oak (Allier, Nevers, Troncais), six months in bottle. Almost black. Sweet and rich and international. Soft and ripe and very very carefully made. A wine that surely goes down a storm in Italy though seems a bit anomalous in this company. Lively and smooth and fresh and well balanced. Not too sweet or overripe. (JR)
About the producer
Literally translating as “beautiful oak”, Querciabella was created in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni. A pioneer in Chianti, he started farming biodynamically and experimenting with both varieties and winemaking – one result of which was Camartina, the property’s flagship Super Tuscan.
