Meaty, defiantly traditional, not to say earthy, nose. Relatively tart palate. There is certainly lift! This probably a minority taste nowadays. (JR)

This is a relatively light to medium-bodied wine, with a medium ruby color already showing some pink at the rim. Notes of earth, wood, compost, and cherry as well as currant fruit gradually emerge from this tightly knit, somewhat low-key, restrained, and austerely styled wine. Very much an old style/traditional interpretation of Bordeaux, the 1999 Belair should hit its prime by 2005 and, in large part, be consumed within 5-10 years thereafter. Last tasted, 1/03.
