The 2000 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a glorious nose with peppermint, yellow plum, white flowers and white pepper. Vibrant and captivating, the palate displays plenty of extract to create one of the more phenolic Ramonets that I have encountered from this vineyard, yet it retains plenty of precision and tension on the finish. This is probably approaching its peak. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.

A very strange bottle, this. Yeasty, gingerbread type notes on the nose. Sweet start to the palate but not fine. If someone had told me it was an Australian Chardonnay I would not have been surprised. Coming from a stable like this, I wonder if this was a faulty bottle? (JR)
